Should we be thinking in terms of establishing “benchmarks for excellence”? (John Clarke)

I think John brings up a good point, that we need something SPECIFIC to 3D.  The guidelines for AHA and CAA and MLA are great, and a step in the right direction, but we need something that lays out for others what is special about 3D materials.  Is this something we could all think about and add/suggest over the course of the year, with the idea that we would have a document we could discuss in person in LA?  Something we could then take to the NEH and post as a white-paper, so that others could use this for promotion and tenure???

This is the type of document that really needs a variety of perspectives, and if not our group, then who?  I think we are really well positioned to take on this type of question, with the breadth of our group.
