The NEH has provided participants with a $1,375 stipend to defray expenses related to the week at UMass Amherst, and an additional $1,000 to defray expenses related to the 2016 symposium at UCLA. (International scholars are responsible for their own taxes and visa coordination.)
Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements, both to UMass Amherst in 2015 and to UCLA in 2016. We will provide airport transfers to and from Bradley International Airport (BDL).
While there are many lodging options in Amherst, we suggest the following three:
- Housing is available on-campus at UMass Amherst for $50 per night plus a $10 linen fee. We’ve reserved five suites, each with four individual rooms and two bathrooms.
- We are also willing to help arrange shared housing options for the group. With this option we could assist in arranging for the rental of a large house that could be shared by multiple participants.
- You are also free to make your own arrangements at any of the hotels near campus. (Rates range between $94 (University Lodge) and $195 (Lord Jeffery) per night.) Housing options for the 2016 UCLA symposium have not yet been identified.
